FC Dallas 2, San Jose Earthquakes 2 | 2016 MLS Match Recap

FC Dallas came into Saturday night’s home match against the San Jose Earthquakes with a lot to protect, enjoying a three-match undefeated streak and a spot at the top of the Western Conference. They also boasted some stats that looked pretty good going in: no losses to the Quakes in the teams’ last five meetings.

And that unbeaten stat is one FC Dallas will continue to enjoy – barely – after Dallas came away with one point in a 2-2 draw Saturday night, despite a defense that looked shaky against San Jose's stars.

Things started out tough for Dallas, but San Jose defender Victor Bernardez headed in an FCD cross for an own goal to equalize.

Box Score

Three Things

  1. QUINTERO OPENS HIS ACCOUNT: With virtually no marking from Dallas, San Jose's Panamian midfielder managed to direct an Amarikwa pass into the top right corner after just the fourth minute. Capitalizing on weak Dallas defense opened Quintero’s MLS account – he joined Dallas on loan from Lobos BUAP in February.
  2. GRUEZO GETS ANOTHER YELLOW: Dallas’ Ecuadorian DP will need to watch his fouls. He entered this game with four yellow cards to date, leading MLS in fouls overall with 14. He picked up yet another yellow in the 31st minute and now leads the league in them.
  3. WONDERFUL WONDO: Wondo’s a star for a reason—he still delivers. His 55th minute goal, assisted by Amarikwa, looked butter-smooth, making his fourth goal in five games this season. That ties him with the Whitecaps’ Pedro Morales for most goals so far this season.
