  • David Villa scored two goals in a game for the second time this season – his sixth career MLS multiple-goal game, in 36 league appearances – but NYCFC saw their winless run extended to five games in a 3-2 defeat at Columbus Crew SC on Saturday evening.
  • The teams evenly split their season series in NYCFC’s first season in MLS. The teams split the two encounters in Chester, Union taking a 2-1 win on April 11, and NYCFC returning the favor in a 2-1 win June 6.
