Chicago Fire 1, Portland Timbers 1 | 2016 MLS Match Recap

The Chicago Fire and Portland Timbers played to a 1-1 draw, trading goals early but otherwise playing to a stalemate.

The Timbers got on the board first when Diego Valeri claimed an unsuccessful clearance by Rodrigo Ramos. Valeri was able to hold the ball up in the penalty area eventually scoring on a shot taken from a tight angle along the end line.

The lead was short lived, as the Fire equalized two minutes later: Kennedy Igboananike received the ball inside the penalty area and sent a low cross in toward David Accam. All Accam had to do was redirect it into the back of the net.

Box Score

Three Things

  1. TURN UP THE FIRE: Last week Chicago hit their second-highest shot-on-target total of the 2016 season with 7 in their 1-0 victory over Houston, and now against the Timbers they managed 6. The Fire have found their shooting boots, but they'll need to improve their conversion rate to start stringing wins together.
  2. KEEP THE STREAK ALIVE: In seven meetings now, Portland has never lost to the Fire (4-3-0). They've outscored Chicago 12-7 over that stretch.
  3. I THINK ACCAM, I THINK ACCAM: The Fire have been waiting to get back a full-strength Accam. Tonight marked not only his first full 90 minutes since his injury, but also a goal. Each of his three full-90-minute matches this season have coincided with a score.
