FC Dallas 3, Chicago Fire 1 | 2016 MLS Match Recap

No doubt still smarting from their shocking and embarrassing midweek blowout loss to Seattle, FC Dallas took out whatever frustration they had against the visiting Chicago Fire in a 3-1 victory Saturday night at steamy Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Tex.

The victory by FC Dallas extended their undefeated streak at home to 16 games, dating to last season, but was their first over the Fire in a league game since 2011, ending a four-game losing streak in the Brimstone Cup rivalry.

The FC Dallas players entered the pitch wearing blue #DallasStrong T-shirts, as a show of support in the wake of last week's mass shooting, and in the fifth minute of the game, all supporters groups in the stadium observed a minute of silence.

Box Score

Three Things

1. THEY SAY TIMING IS EVERYTHING: And frankly, Chicago's timing was, um, unfortunate. This was not the best time to face the league's top team, not after Dallas had been spanked, 5-0, by Seattle midweek. The Fire had to know FC Dallas would be looking to get payback against somebody. The hosts dominated possession and outshot the visitors 20-10. The score could have been uglier.

2. ROAD WARRIORS, THEY'RE NOT: The Fire still haven't won on the road this season and at 0-7-2 away from Toyota Park, they have the fewest road points (two) of anyone in the league. To be fair, four other clubs have yet to win away from home, but none of the teams that are winless on the road is above the red line (though Portland Timbers are close).

3. THE SHIRTS ON THEIR BACKS: As a tribute following last week's mass shooting, the FC Dallas players took the pitch in blue #DallasStrong T-shirts, the same ones available to the public before the game. The club sold more than 1,000 of the shirts; all proceeds will go to the Dallas Foundation's Line of Duty fund.
