North Carolina FC 2, Houston Dynamo 3 | 2017 U.S. Open Cup Recap

CARY, N.C. – It took an 88-minute lightning delay, extra time and a slew of near misses, but the Houston Dynamo outlasted North Carolina FC on Wednesday night, getting a 109th minute winner from Memo Rodriguez to beat the NASL club 3-2 in a Fourth Round US Open Cup match at Sahlen’s Stadium.

Rodriguez collected a loose ball outside the NCFC box following a Dynamo corner kick, taking a touch and rifling a low right-footer into the bottom-left corner from 25 yards out to give Houston the win.

NCFC defender Steven Miller gave the hosts the lead in the fourth minute, when he picked up a loose ball outside the area and rocketed a left-footer into the top-right corner from 25 yards. Houston responded quickly, with Andrew Wenger hitting the post in the eighth minute before equalizing in the 25th. Dylan Remick gave the Dynamo the lead in the 62nd, before Lance Laing tucked home a free kick to bring NCFC level in the 69th.

The match was suspended in the 88th minute, with the sides eventually emerging after a 1 hour, 28 minute delay and heading to extra time before Rodriguez scored the winner.
