Chicago Fire 4, Orlando City SC 0 | 2017 MLS Match Recap

David Accam scored his first career hat trick, scoring twice in the first eight minutes, as the Chicago Fire rolled to a 4-0 home victory over Orlando City SC on Saturday night at Toyota Park.

Accam assisted on Nemanja Nikolic's league-leading 14th goal of the year early in the second half, and then converted a penalty kick in the 63rd minute to round out the scoring.

Nikolic had a number of other chances to add to his tally throughout the match; he was a major reason the Fire held a 17-3 shot advantage over OCSC.

Three Things

  1. IT WASN'T JUST HIS SCORING: David Accam left his mark on the game in more ways than the clearly indelible three goals. Three separate OCSC players were given yellow cards trying to slow Accam down, with two coming in the first half and the third being awarded, uncharacteristically, to Kaká. Accam's assist was the one of a number of solid passes he made on a night where he met and then surpassed his 2016 totals for both goals and assists.
  2. TIRED LEGS?: Orlando City played its fourth match in 11 days, dating back to a June 14 U.S. Open Cup loss to Miami FC, and including a draw at Seattle just three days prior to Saturday's away match. OCSC is 0-2-2 in MLS play this month; they haven't won a league match since hosting D.C. United back on May 31.
  3. INJURY TO INSULT: OCSC forward Carlos Rivas looked like he was en route to putting his team on the board late in the match, when he was stopped just outside the box by a charging, sliding Matt Lampson. Though it potentially could have been ruled denial of a goal-scoring opportunity, it wasn't, and Rivas stayed down for several moments after his team's last, best chance was denied.
