Montreal Impact 2, Orlando City SC 1 | 2017 MLS Match Recap

Two second-half goals – the second by Homegrown product Anthony Jackson-Hamel in the 84th minute – propelled the Montreal Impact to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Orlando City SC Saturday night in Stade Saputo, snapping a two-game losing streak.

Orlando's Cyle Larin opened the scoring when he muscled Marco Donadel off the ball and pushed a shot past Montreal keeper Evan Bush in the 12th minute, but Ignacio Piatti equalized on a penalty kick in the 48th. Jackson-Hamel, who entered the game as a substitute in the 79th minute, won it with his sixth goal of the season.

Three Things

  1. DROUGHT OVER: It had been a long time for Cyle Larin between goals. His last goal for Orlando City had been May 31, which might explain why he so rudely knocked over Montreal defender Marco Donadel in the 12th minute and hungrily chased the ball down to slot it past Montreal goalkeeper Evan Bush. He had another chance later, sent in on goal by a pass from his new strike partner, Dom Dwyer. The shot missed the target, but if there are more passes like that going forward, there should be more goals, too.
  2. HAPPY TO HAVE YOU BACK: Ignacio Piatti's last two appearances for the Impact had been off the bench, as he recovered from an adductor injury that kept him out of the lineup for most of July. In his first start since June 24, Piatti was an awesome force for Montreal, drawing the penalty - and then converting it - to tie the game in the 48th minute. He slammed a curling shot off the crossbar in the 72nd minute and just in general was a threat every time the ball was anywhere near him. Welcome back, Nacho.
  3. SUPER SUB: Anthony Jackson-Hamel scored the game-winning goal five minutes after entering the game as a substitute. Jackson-Hamel has six goals this season, and five of them came as a substitute. Having someone who can change a game like that is a nice weapon for any team.
