New England Revolution 2, Toronto FC 1 | 2017 MLS Match Recap

The New England Revolution used late goals from Lee Nguyen and Kei Kamara to defeat Toronto FC 2-1 Saturday evening at Gillette Stadium.

Making his first appearance off the bench this season, Nguyen put the Revs ahead when his shot deflected off Toronto defender Drew Moor and past goalkeeper Clint Irwin who had already committed the other way. Toronto answered right away when Nicolas Hasler's one-timed a Michael Bradley pass over Cody Cropper and in. Kamara put the Revs back on top when he rose up to head in a corner kick.

The win was New England's first under interim coach Tom Soehn, who took over for Jay Heaps earlier this week.

Three Things

  1. HOME DIFFERENCE: The road was not kind to the Revs last week -- well, it hasn't been all year. But home is a completely different story. Tonight's win was New England's sixth straight at home, and improves the team's record to 11-2-2 at Gillette in 2017. They have four games left to try to sneak back into an East playoff spot, two at home and two on the road (where they're winless through 15).
  2. SUPER SUB: Nguyen found himself in an unfamiliar role on Saturday when he entered the game off the bench. In his sixth year in the league, Nguyen has started 182 of the 187 games he's appeared in. The last time he entered a match off the bench was on May 2, 2015.
  3. TORONTO SLIP: Toronto entered the week with only three losses. They've now lost two in a row for the first time all year after also dropping a midweek result to Montreal. While still in line to easily win the Supporters' Shield, they'll have to take seven points from their final three games to surpass the 1998 Galaxy for most points in a season
