San Jose Earthquakes 0, Real Salt Lake 0 | 2018 MLS Match Recap
San Jose's winless streak reached 12 matches despite their ending a three-game losing streak. RSL are 9-9-4 but still have just one win on the road in 11 away games this season.
Real Salt Lake lost midfielder Albert Rusnak and his five goals and six assists to what looked like a neck injury just a few minutes into the game. RSL were already without head coach Mike Petke, who served the second of a two-game suspension.
The Earthquakes, at 2-12-7, have the league's lowest point total at 13.
- THE BIG PICTURE: If there was any road game from which Real Salt Lake might take three points, this was it against the Quakes. But RSL didn't put enough pressure on with their attack, and had to settle for one point for which they have Rimando to thank. RSL's next chance for a second road win? Aug. 15 at impressive LAFC. For San Jose, a win looked within their grasp but Quincy Amarikwa's 65th-minute shot off the crossbar was the closest they got. But the effort was better than earlier in the week against Seattle.
- MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Tarbell came up big on a pair of second-half saves on headers that looked bound for the net. This one on RSL's Justen Glad in the 54th minute was particularly noteworthy:
- MAN OF THE MATCH: Quincy Amarikwa looks like all of the losses and draws haven't affected his heart and hustle. The Quakes needed a spark from the forward, and the veteran zoomed and zipped around and past defenders in an effort the home fans could be proud of. He also almost produced the go-ahead goal.
