New England Revolution 0, Philadelphia Union 0 | 2020 MLS Match Recap

The New England Revolution and Philadelphia Union marked their returns to MLS regular season play with a 0-0 draw at Gillette Stadium on Thursday.

The hosts got off to a strong start, but struggled to get shots on target. Philly goalkeeper Andre Blake rose to the occasion early in the first half to make a save on a Gustavo Bou attempt. Eventually, though, the Union were able to get into the match and excelled in transition, and from there the two began to play a more even game in possession.

As the game went on, the Union created more opportunities to score but Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner was able to keep his team in the game, making multiple saves in the second half while the team's offense could not create more quality chances. The Revolution had a late surge while the Union looked for a winner in stoppage time, but in the end neither team could find a goal.

  • THE BIG PICTURE: The Union slowly grew into the match and showed some of the form they had on the way to the MLS is Back Tournament semifinals, while the Revolution did not take advantage of a strong start and ended the game with just one shot on target in their first game without Carles Gil.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Turner came up big for the Revolution, getting started on a five save game in the 36th minute.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Turner made five saves for the Revolution, ensuring his team would keep a clean sheet and earn a point on a day the offense wasn't firing.
